Indigenous Women Leadership

Indigenous Women Leadership for is an introductory program for Indigenous women in personal empowerment and leadership. The program assists Indigenous women to understand the meaning of personal empowerment and how it relates to personal leadership to support the development of stronger families and communities. The program incorporates mentoring and coaching sessions for Indigenous women.

The six module program is for Indigenous women who reside and are members of their remote, regional and urban Indigenous community in Australia. It includes the following modules:

Module 1: Social and Cultural Environment
This module focuses on the identification and assessment of the physical, cultural, social and economic environment in which Indigenous women reside and are expected to operate as leaders.

Module 2: Women as Individuals
This module focuses on the identification of personal strengths in terms of their abilities, knowledge, skills, attitudes, culture, personalities, and experience as individuals, planning for personal holistic well-being and empowerment, and goal setting to achieve personal empowerment and leadership potential.

Module 3: Women as A Group
This module focuses on the identification of collective strengths of Indigenous women as a group, planning for holistic group well-being and empowerment, creating positive and supportive networks among women, and goal setting for effective group leadership.

Module 4: Women in Families
This module focuses on the identification of the responsibilities of Indigenous women in relation to their families, the ways in which they take on leadership roles in their families and on behalf of their families, and how these responsibilities and roles contribute to the capacity of their families to be involved in the management of their own affairs.

Module 5: Women in Communities
This module focuses on the identification of the responsibilities of Indigenous women in relation to their communities, the ways in which they take on leadership roles as bi-cultural leaders in their communities and on behalf of their communities, and how these responsibilities and roles contribute to the capacity of their communities to be involved in the management of their own affairs.

Module 6: Strong Leadership
This module focuses on the connections between strong culture, strong women, strong families and strong communities, how Indigenous women can be leaders in Indigenous cultural and mainstream contexts, how they can be involved in the management of their family and community affairs, and make a difference for themselves, their families and their communities.
